ARTISTIC CREATION

From a young age I have had a strong bond to stone.I kept my collection of special stones and fossils in a large chest. In my childhood I found peace and inspiration in the nature for the painting and drawing. Soon it was clear that my vocation lay in creative work. This bond to stone and the joy of three-dimensional creation led me to the profession of sculptor in stone. From then on sculpting was the path which I followed with strong intention.

1997-2001 I completed my four-year apprenticeship as stone sculptor in the studio of Peter Schaerz in Baden, Switzerland. I studied at the Academy of Art in Bern (Hochschule fuer Gestaltung und Kunst). I was employed by the sculptor Andreas Wuest in Zurich for almost six years. After further short work experiences it was clear to me that I would find fulfilment in being self-employed.

Since 2008 I have been self-employed as a sculptor and freelance artist. I express myself constantly through various types of art. Photography, painting, sculpture and music are my forms of expression. I’m interested in any kind of art, because each speaks a different language to us. Art is my instrument, to set an example, or to give my feelings or my thoughts a shape, a colour or a melody. It should also be a mirror of the soul, in which we all recognize ourselves as human beings.

Mankind has no time. We live in the past or in the future, but the present is at this moment already the past. Art captures the moment, this moment for which we no longer have time. It sets up memorials that seem to last forever – works before which we must pause for a moment and look at and appreciate, to understand the language of our soul, to go the right way.

My most faithful companion is stone. It is hard, wise and beautiful. It shows you where your limits are. It helps you rediscover yourself in it. You have to feel the stone in order to understand it and create wonderful things with it.
